I finished my cane sculpture today, entitled ‘the Golden Spit’. It was inspired by a lovely part of the North Norfolk coast I visited last summer.

As the pictures show, the piece started in the centre around a former. This held the stakes in place. A mixture of randing, packing and waling weaves were used to get the shape and separate the colours. The walling was mainly done in yellow and the randing and packing in blue.

Although I had a rough idea of where it was heading it gradually evolved into a fish like form  which was pretty appropriate as it happens. I also made a small cuff to stand it on using a small cardboard  box as a former.
